Sisters

by @savvyaz

Liner Notes

I was given lyrics by my local songwriting buddy, Steve Price, to tinker with and add melody. This is the result. I still haven't figured out my DAW or Band in a Box yet.

Glad to finally have a song posted! What a busy month it's been for me in my non-songwriting life.

Lyrics

SISTERS

By Steve Price and Savannah Rogers

Sisters gotta stick together
Sisters gotta stick together

V1

We cut each other’s hair
At the same time
With the lights out
Using butter knives
Woke up in the morning and it wasn’t just a dream

Chorus

Mountains gotta crumble
Clouds gotta part
Molecules gotta split
Endings gotta start
Things gotta get worse
‘Fore they get better
But sisters gotta stick together

V2

We kicked each other’s boyfriends
Square in the nuts
None of them had a brain
None of them had guts
But when they left us all we did was cry

[repeat chorus]

bridge:

We had the same mama
Same daddy more or less
Why we look so different
Is anybody’s guess

Sisters gotta stick together
Sisters gotta stick together

V3

We say each other’s prayers
In the same breath
We live each other’s lives
We’ll die each other’s deaths
And wonder if the whole thing was a dream

[repeat chorus]

Sisters gotta stick together
Sisters gotta stick together
Sisters gotta stick together
Sisters gotta stick together

Hey Savannah, so pleased you finally posted! And what a great song. The chorus melody is uplifting and the repetition ‘sisters gotta stick together’ is a catchy singalong.

@billwhite51 🥹 I'm astonished at your comment. Literally tearing up right now. Thank you. You have no idea how hard the struggle was for me to figure out the chords to accompany my melody.

this is such a perfect song and performance. the development of the music is so precise and so right. from verse to chorus to bridge, you take us just where we want to go. the result is so satisfying, and the lyric, like the music, opens up like a flower as it evolves from shared commonalities to spiritual insights into the human condition.
