So Clear

by @danielkelly

Liner Notes

This melody was originally written for another FAWMers song. Rather than waste the melody I wrote some new lyrics.

Maybe 30 years ago I could be a passable keyboard player at a Church worship service, but that was 30 years ago and I no longer go to church, or play the piano.

I was going to just upload the audio, but then realized I didn't donate enough for hosting here, so apologies to those who don't like the YouTube platform.

Lyrics

C G
Somewhere I know there’s a place,
F G
At the end of the storm and the fear,
C D E F’
Where hands can hold, and hearts can sing,
F’ C G C
And each step before us is clear, so clear,

Am G C
And though I may not be there now,
Am G C’
And the dark all around me has grown,
F’ C G Am
Tucked in my heart, like a lost little bird,
F G C
Is the hope I will get there somehow, somehow

For we are the tears of the stars,
And made for far more than we see,
Eternal and bright, of shimmering light,
And each one a deep mystery, mystery,

So though you may not be there now,
In time I am sure you will be,
Racing the wind, through a rainbow of trees,
In joy and in elegant ease, at ease

I'm fascinated by how people use prosody in their matching of music and words (or subvert it for comic effect). This is a nice example of the melody giving strong support to the message.

This is an excellent melody, and nicely matched to its new lyrics. Love the doubling of the word at the end of the verse, and the hopefulness here. (I also love "we are the tears of the stars" -- that stanza is wonderful throughout.)

For someone who's not played piano for so long, you do a great job. The chords are nicely chosen and there's a lovely lilting rhythm to the song. I really like the rising progression in the third line of the verses. And the sense of hope in the song is well needed right now.
