Liner Notes

My first skirmish! Thank you, I needed something fun! It turns out the writing AND recording part was super challenging in just an hour, so I’m a little late to post.

Lyrics

In yesteryear, and maybe before,
There was a great lizard in tales of yore
Her berth was huge, and her mouth ate more
Than any great whale of today.

On the floor of the deep, she was older than old,
Her head it was tiny, and covered in mold,
And the fate of her life we’d never have knowed
If it weren’t for Captain O’Leary.

(Chorus) Oh Nessie, oh Nessie, you see
She’s stuck in this loch,
which once was a sea,
She flips and she dips,
Trying ever to flee,
Back to her briny home.

Now that brave pirate captain I’ve already named
Liked to go hunting for really big game,
So he stirred up the waters and hoped he could find,
The biggest fish in the sea.

To his great surprise Big Old Nessie leaped out,
She sailed through the air, Cap’n shouted, “Look out!”
She flopped to the water quite close the shore
of what we now call Scotland.

(Chorus)

The tidal wave her great body made
Sent the ship to it’s watery grave,
And the land between the two of them made
A fishbowl for poor Nessie.

It’s been over a thousand years
And still Nessie swims in a bath of her tears,
As people snap photos from the many piers
On the shores of the great Loch Ness.

(Chorus)

Welcome to FAWM, and to skirmishing. I rarely get a song done and recorded without stretching the hour, so don't feel bad about that.

This song is a lot of fun. Well done.

I love the explanation of the origin of Loch Ness. It makes perfect sense that it would be named after Nessie ha ha. I love the sighing effect implied by the chorus melody.

This is GREAT. This origin story is both funny and sad - wonderful lyrics! I'm so glad you enjoyed your first skirmish! I think this song definitely belongs on an album.

Great fun song. Love the idea of how she got there.
I live in Scotland and this song reminded me of how my wife and I took our sons to Loch Ness when they were very young. They had shrimp nets and I encouraged them to dip them in the loch to see if they could catch Nessie!
