Memory of Heat

by @dhiatt

Liner Notes

Inspired by the feeling of being cold in bed. Yuck!
Originally this was going to be called "Cold Bodies," but the phrase "memory of heat" popped into my head as a button for the chorus as I was working on the melodies.

I like quite a bit of this one, but it feels a bit half-baked. Particularly as it shares a lot of elements of Bathysphere. Suggestions and criticism welcome.

Lyrics

In days before I’d reach for you
Our shared warmth would multiply
Now neither of us has the heat
On this bed we divide

There was a night that brought us here
One of us touched off a flame
Set off a spark, burned all the fuel
Don’t even remember who to blame

So we each walk alone

Now we seek release
Our cold bodies walk these streets
Searching for something to kindle our fire
A memory of heat

In days before I’d be there
When you came to bed
Now it’s just your perfume
Lingers there instead

You hunt alone

Now we seek release
Our cold bodies walk these streets
Searching for something to kindle our fire
A memory of heat

Will it always be this way
The two of us in the dark
It would take a spark
But I can’t generate one

Now we seek release
Our cold bodies walk these streets
Searching for something to kindle our fire
A memory of heat

I really like the vocal melody, and the complex interplay of rhythms between the drums and guitars. Don’t be shy, you’re an exellent player and singer! I would like to hear the parts at the same volume in the mix, as is, your guitars and drums loses impact, and they are important in this genre to get a sense of drive. Try use the meters in your daw to balance the tracks equal, it’s really good stuff!

I'm originally from Sudan, so you had me at "heat", and I agree with you, I like "memory of heat" as the song title, very catchy! And I love all the 'heat' references through out the lyrics!
Well done.

It's a great theme - I have friends and family in Massachusetts and Canada that are always freezing, seeking heat and friends and family in Florida, trying to cool off. But then, the underlying meaning where we're searching for love and companionship really draws the listener in. I love the guitar work. Your voice is really dark, which gives it a bit of a dangerous edge to it.

Some great lyrics in here - on this bed we divide is probably my favourite line. I kind of know what you mean - the arrangement doesn't quite seem to serve the song. But you have something here, and I wouldn't give up on it. One to put aside and leave to mature in the vaults.
