Liner Notes

After a very long day and more than little whiskey I was heading to bed when I start singing some new lines. Not wanting to forget them I started writing. Words flowed easy and in a few minute the song was finished. I was going to play it on mandolin, but opted for a banjo, which has been untouched for at least a year because I can't get the hang of it. I tried a few open G guitar shapes and got noise that I liked, and did this #acousticonetake, real banjo song. I like the feel of the song and will probably play at unsuspecting civilians in local venues. I've also decided to learn to play banjo for real.

Lyrics

‘LOVE?’

They talk no talk of leaving
Not a word about will stay
They ought to make a decision though
Before one or both of them get hurt

Each lost in their own reflection
Mostly in different rooms
Not like way back in the day
When they savoured proximity

Silence leads to speculation
About what is on the other’s mind
Silence is a fissure, it’s a crack,
Through which indifference creeps

There can't be a right or a wrong side
If both are at fault
Neither wants to shoulder that burden
Neither one could carry the blame

So it goes piling up
Until their world implodes
Words spoken, action taken
Leaving no way back

Fun song in the Blue Boar with lots of participation. Nice one!

Yes this feels like a proper county blues with the banjo. A great rhythm too

Oh yes, I'm loving your use of banjo here - totally suits the mood. Especially like the silence verse. A depressingly accurate rumination on why so many relationships founder, which makes for a highly effective write ✍️ 👌

I like the premise of a song about the moment before breakup but not the usual "they were the only one for me" or "how can they do this to me" type of thing but just the it's not working so we should probably break up that is the end of most relationships.

The banjo was also a real good choice of instrument as it just works with this song.
