Lyrics

Some folk think I’m a miser Some people think I’m mean
But I think I am wiser To love a bit of green
I’ve had these clothes for ages Not one for style and swank
I’ve money for my wages and it’s still in the bank

I could have bought you jewelry I could have bougfht you clothes
I’d buy into your foolery and purchase what you chose
I know I’ve saved my money I guess you’ve drawn a blank
I hope you find it funny that it’s still in the bank

You think I’m avaricious you think that it’s just greed
But I think I’m ambitious for wealth is what I need
Accounts that I have started Each dollar pound and franc
I know we won’t be parted and they’re still in the bank

It seems our love is ending and maybe it’s a shame
You hate my lack of spending Might be that I’m to blame
You’re making an assessment I’ve just myself to thank
I’ve purchased my investment and it’s still in the bank

What a cute and clever song!

There's just not enough songs about the virtues of saving money! Nicely laid out in narrative form with the relational storyline running through.

Wow, really like how this song floats along as a kind of character study, and then in the last verse reveals the real pain and loss of the singer's behavior. I think your gentle voice and uke are disarming and work well for this. And your clever rhymes likewise are kind of hypnotic and don't give away the sad surprise -- the guy's life is still locked up in the bank. I enjoyed this!

Smooth sound, I love the triple meter groove. I like your melody a lot, and also like the humor in your story. Good song!

Great opening line and good rhyming for a story of priorities. I like that we never find out whether the priorities are ones we would agree with or not.

@hakk
A great story about conflict between saving and spending. This could be the story of unhappy love of Uncle Scrooge, who loved his money more than his honey!

Great use of the title - i can see this being a singalong song in a folk club
