My friend Dennis in Dubuque (Iowa) wrote a poem. He's not on FAWM.

I tweaked his poem slightly, then worked on chords and added the chorus (a very long - way longer than I anticipated LOL - yet enjoyable exercise) to make it into this little song.

Lyrics

V1 (C-G-am-F)
A message was never sent
Yet here come my friends again
They are sounding cheerfully divine
Drinking nectar instead of wine

They're happy with cheap seed treats
Yep, they are so easy to please
They don't need a fancy restaurant
Simple kindness is all they want

As a bird lover myself, this was a wonderful find. I like the first two lines which allow for a quick surprise about who the friends are. If it were my song, I might save the"reveal" (about them being birds) for a little longer time but it certainly works as is. Nice music and a nice touch to add the bird sounds. Thanks for sharing this.

I love this! Also, I posted a challenge to include friends who do music/poetry/lyrics a little bit less in fawm this year and this qualifies for that challenge! I'm adding it to that thread 😀

Right off the at, the happy piano caught my ears. The way the chorus lengthens with the the vocal melody makes it stand out well from the verses and gives it a lot of nice breathing room to explore the topic. I love the idea of just stretching out, opening up and singing. That's a great thing to do. This is so joyous! Fun bird sounds too.

A Karen and Dennis collaboration? That brings back memories! Lovely melody on this. The piano flows beautifully and your vocals are lovely. The birds made me smile. I love the sentiment in the poem/lyric as well. Nice!
