A Winter Song

Liner Notes
This one came together reasonably quickly. I thought the uneven line lengths would throw me but they didn't, much. That said, the demo is a bit messy but I'm not going for full productions at this point. In my fourth FAWM, I've adopted the ethos of getting it out and moving on.
I did try some more dynamic vocal performances, but they didn't work. Better to keep it more at one level and let a real singer with a real band figure out the dynamics later.
The opening lines popped into my head while I was outside and felt a chill, but the chill was not in any part of my body that was exposed - it was a deeper chill, like from a sickness. A chill that won't leave you alone. A chill of foreboding; a chill that announces an end. But endings can also be beginnings. Everything ends, everything begins anew.
Lyrics
# A Winter Song
Cm -Eb- Bb- Eb-Bb Cm
I can tell by the skin of my face that it's not that cold of a day
Cm -Eb- Bb- Eb-Bb F - Cm
But I can feel that the chills in my back and the cold in my bones are here to stay
Cm
And the wind
F
Blows right through me
Cm F G-Cm
And no one looks me in the eyes
Will you stand there with your hands on your hips and that twist of your lips aimed at me?
Will you tell me what I already know that it's time I should go where I want to be?
Will your words go right through me?
Will I even look you in the eyes?
Now that winter's turned to fearful spring, have we solved anything in our lives?
When the hours finally cut us some slack will we go right back sharpening longer knives?
And if we make it through this,
Will we look each other in the eyes?
I breathe in like it's my very last and let go of the past and walk on
When the bracing air hits my face and it feels like my days have just begun
And the wind blows right through me and I let the tears flow from my eyes
