lying there caked in snow
but now it's melting and i think that i'm starting to freeze

and i saw you steaming yesterday
filling the air with spittle and malice
and i wept until my tears all started filling up your chalice

there's a swarm of paper bullets coming down the line

they're gonna get me, they'll cut me up just like a monk

on top of my hill it's so safe
and god it's so warm, and god i'm so frightened
my teeth are yellowed and my eyes are horribly sunk

and you saw me pacing back and forth
muttering something like 'god, have mercy'
and i'd hate for you to think that i'm devout
or days away from joining the clergy

there's a seraph calling out to me
beckoning without moving
face obscured by the seething glow of ecstacy

and i'm caught in a beam, in a wave
all i hear is the glow, the sound of sheer silence
and i open my eyes and i see what's in front of me

Your opening line “something strange is rolling up my hill” really grabbed me because of its upside-down imagery. Great place to start a song! I dig the guitars too 💚

Oh man I really like this. Nice imagery which is just vague enough for the listener to lean in a bit and pay attention. You’ve got a great voice, reminds me of Paul Simon.

I hope you keep this whole thing, it’s great, but especially I hope you keep the paper bullets stanza through joining the clergy. That’s some really strong lyricism. I love how you’ve put this together as kind of a stripped back acoustic-electric mix with a lot of really frantic sounding strumming, it fits the overall feel so well.
