My first idea for a FAWM MMXXV song was to compose something inspired by the lunar new year, which co-incided with the start of FAWM. This year is the Year Of The Snake, in the Chinese calendar. Coincidentally, I was born in a Year Of The Snake (1977, if anyone is counting…). So I feel especially energized by the lunar cycles this year. Consequently, this year is also the elemental year of Wood in the Chinese horoscope (I was a Fire Snake), hence the song title.

This is another track built completely in Jeskola Buzz using HG Fortune's Fortune Cookie 2012 VSTi, along with DSK The Grand, DSK BassZ, & DSK Asian DreamZ VSTi's. These were all further processed by a rack of native Buzz Machines. I built the music around two scales A# Oriental (Heptatonic) & A# Chinese (Pentatonic). It was a fun exercise in mixing eastern & western sounds & styles. In the end, this is a melting pot, sort of like what I feel this year is going to be…

Also, this is sort of a #slothcore track as its BPM is set to 21, tho it lacks the dirt & naps. As such, this song is exactly 20 bars long in 4/4 time.

See You In The Shadows…

Yeah, that's my kind of beginning!
I'm liking this.
Like some sort of vast and ancient beast living in the crushing depths at the bottom of the ocean.
I can hear that snake slithering around.
It sounds like a menacing reptile.
Are snakes reptiles?
You know what I mean.

The snake slowly courses the woods, the drones is her incessant footless march and the instruments are the paths it takes in each skin change. Lovely

Nice rumbling, great to render the sense of being energized. The piano is quite intriguing, wandering in different directions, as if painting a picture of possibilities rather than showing fixed directions.
[sarcasm] Shame on you for making a slothcore track without naps! You're going to exhaust that poor sloth! [/sarcasm]
Hope our Fire will burn the Wood this year.

Really like that deep drone, the keys on top pair well and give this a ominous feeling to it.

Mmmmmm…NOW! That’s what I call sloth vol.5

One day…the masses will get their grubby fingers and minds wrapped around the elegance that is slothcore. And the people’s third eyes will be forced open as if by some cosmic squeegee coming down to clear the obstruction. I was transported through the duration. Lovely lovely.

3:47 for 20 bars! Slothy indeed. Elegant and atmospheric. I had to look up those scales. Very pleasing to the ear!

I clicked fast because of the slothcore label. I like that piano that is playing some steps around. Oh it's gone a bit microtonal with that other instrument ( sounds like a guitar midi ). The drone changes are non disruptive and add flavour to the piece. I feel like this is what a sloth would sound like doing the tumble dryer and washing machine, while slowly taking it's time folding each clothing.

I love this! The heptatonic &pentatonic scales give this a really otherworldly sound, as does the drone sound. I like how you’ve built it up over the course of the song. Very cool! Also I’m a snake year too (2001)!

Love the fusion of sounds produced here. Enjoyed listening.
Wooden Snakes & Jade Dreams, what a fitting and awesome title too.
