When Lorrie Met Larry

A true story

Lyrics

when Lorrie met Larry, he was struggling to carry
a dishwasher into her home,
she watched as he worked in his blue-collared shirt,
she'd spent so many decades alone,

in that sprawling estate down on Argyle Way,
where she'd raised a girl and two boys
the nest had been flown, they had kids of their own,
but she'd held on to all their old toys

When Larry asked Lorrie to be part of his story
she was thoroughly taken aback
but she didn't say no, and they took things slow,
and eventually it seemed it would last

On the day they were married, said Lorrie to Larry,
"I never dreamed it could end up this way,
getting married at 70, whatever God's plan for me,
I'll love you 'til my dying day."

Now it's Larry alone in that big empty home
full of toys and a lifetime of boxes
He works on his trailer, and smokes his cigars,
and he goes to visit her often

at the old folks' home, where she's never alone
though her Larry and her are apart
and she still shows her love, though she's speaking in tongues,
for the handyman who mended her heart

Some strains of Josh Ritter in this wonderful piece. I love the tight internal rhymes.

And the performance is A+. Terrific playing and equally great vocals

What a lovely bit of storytelling and beautifully put together too.
