Liner Notes

Last acoustic demo for a bit. This was almost all one take, except for one small overdub. However, much as I enjoy the process, I don't really have the chops/focus/short term memory to make good acoustic takes. I'm learning! Just not fast enough. So for the next ones I'm pulling my electric instruments out and will be working more in my DAW.

The song itself is about two people on the lam, but doesn't say why. This is a theme I expect to return to later this FAWM.

Lyrics

Bm-F# -E
I'd hide your guns, I'd lie to the cops for you
Bm-F# -E
I'd find you an airtight alibi
Bm-F# -E - A
And if you need a body buried, I'll be there for you
F# -E - D
I can be your silent partner, I can be your confidante.

All I ask from you is your loyalty
This world is each man to himself
Bm-F# -E-A
But if we stick together, we may make it out alive
Keep your wallet open and let your lips be tight

A -E-Bm
Our lives are crime!
Our lives are crime!
Our lives are crime!
Our lives are crime!

We can’t afford to leave a paper trail
We can’t afford the light of day
The needful and the loathsome are all waiting to be done
Until the witnesses and evidence are gone

A grand a day, to keep them off our scent
It's never easy, never cheap
Our man on the inside has expenses of his own
To defend himself and keep the wolves at bay

Our lives are crime!

Across this wildland lies our destiny
One final push and we'll be there
The men with the guns are overworked and underpaid
It's showtime, run and don't look back

Some good character building, though the longer the song goes on the more curious I am about some more specifics of the heist. The prolonged pauses really add to the tension of the tune.

I love this!! The themes about camaraderie in the face of an uncaring world are so pertinent right now. "All I ask from you is your loyalty / This world is each man to himself / But if we stick together, we may make it out alive" This is probably my favorite part of the song, the kind of hope that comes from desperation in another person. This reminds me a lot of old school country songs about outlaws and runaways, which is one of my favorite genres of music! Love this work.
