Liner Notes

A rough draft of a tune imagining a presidential race in 2044 between Sasha Obama and Barron Trump - and it's okay. Really... Because people tossed their phones and tipped their worlds toward civility and issues everyone cares about.

Good News from 2044?

Don’t know how I got here - 2044.
Somehow the world avoided nuclear war.
Somehow the climate didn’t go to hell.
Somehow the Constitution never fell.

Candidates for president are on the stump.
…Sasha Obama and Barron Trump.

And that’s not the weirdest thing I have to relate.
They’re both kind of sane and talkin’ pretty straight.

That change didn’t happen on its own.
People met each other off the telephone.

Stranger things happened in a darker direction.
Do what you can to make a better inflection.

Join yourself a club or your PTA.
Even run for office if you feel that way.
Find yourself a path that suits your skills and heart.
Take back the power from the oligarchs.

Don’t know how I got here - 2044.
Somehow the world avoided nuclear war.
Somehow the climate didn’t go to hell.
Somehow the Constitution never fell.

Ha, this is a lot of fun. There's been so much doomsaying in the last couple of months that it's a breath of fresh air to hear a little optimism, even if your tongue's partly in your cheek. Your delivery's really engaging, and I've got my fingers crossed you're right. I'll check back in twenty years.

Love the story, and it feels good that we can get through this. Nice delivery in very homey way.

And since you're local, leave a note in the FAWMers of New England thread https://write.fawm.org/forums/2892 so that they other locals can find you!

Glad for the fun reactions so far from @mikeskliar @bethdesombre @tiller2 @nahlej381 ! I'll be refining it to smooth out some of the tight lyrics but thrilled it hits a chord, so to speak. I have to say the "time machine" prompt did get me pointed in this direction.

Such a creative framing! I love the alternate (future) history of how we got there (though, oy, if dynasties are still the leading candidate, we'll still have work to do . . .

A clever political song—and incredibly, with optimism! I dig it, and kinda hope it comes to pass. Excellent performance. Welcome to FAWM!

It’s equal parts punk rock and classic protest music with a dash of modern prophecy. Nice one. The performance is killer.
