Under Their Eyes
by @claudia
Liner Notes
Inspired by Jane Austen’s novel Sense and Sensibility.
As always, the first song is mostly me trying to remember how melodies and chords work hence the somewhat minimalist sound.
Also playing with my new bass (a Fender Mustang Player II chosen based on recommendations in the FAWM forum) and @morti's ancient Yamaha SHS-10 keytar.

Lyrics
Long ago, you said, it was so long ago
The consequences aren’t going away
Impossible, you say, it is impossible
Yet you can’t even look at me while you say
These things, oh no
With all your principles and education
You hide away
Behind your family and situation
Don’t know who you want to be
Don’t know who you are to me
Don’t know what you cannot see
Under their eyes
Make a choice, it’s time for you to make a choice
Cause what you’re doing isn’t fair to me
But you’re too good at making up apologies
With plausible deniability
These things I know
Are lies and false accounts, misinformation
So why don’t you
Stop saying all this is above your station
But you
Don’t know who you want to be
Don’t know who you are to me
Don’t know what you cannot see
Under their eyes
Don’t know what you do to me
Don’t know about my family
Don’t know why we cannot be
Under their eyes
You have the power to change things If you wanted but you’re lying to me
Go find your own place in the world before you make a promise
You can’t keep
Don’t know who you want to be
Don’t know who you are to me
Don’t know what you cannot see
Under their eyes
Don’t know what you do to me
Don’t know about my family
Don’t know why we cannot be
Under their eyes

I will admit to having never read this book, but I know the concept. The lyrics really do fit.
