Liner Notes

The phrase 'That's the way the cookie crumbles' has been bouncing around in my brain for a few years, trying to attract my attention. It succeeded tonight and made into this hastily scribbled ditty. Music to be added soon.
UPDATE Feb 14: I have just edited the original lyrics and added a simple guitar part to make this #acousticonetake recording. The next incarnation will have more intricate finger picking style and finer tuned lyrics. The phrase 'got the nuts' is a term I got last night from a poker-playing pal. It's a guaranteed winning hand where you know you have the best of all the the remaining possibilities - unless the get the calculation wrong. That's all I know about poker 😂

Lyrics

‘I GUESS’

The unrolled sliver held a message
Tread careful, lest you stumble
An ominous sign but never mind
I guess that's how cookie crumbles
How it crumbles

Thought I’d be living high life
Once again, I got it so wrong
Sure I was going to win big
But I am hopelessly lost

Ivory tumbling, bouncing on green
Numbers random - beyond my control
Losing every bill - headed for a spill
Guess that’s the way the dice roll
The way they roll

Kid yourself about what lies ahead
At very best it’s a guess
Expecting huge changes of fortune
From no evidence

Once I was high on a winning streak
I had money to burn
Blew the bunch on a hunch
I guess that’s how the wheel of fortune turns
How it turns

Think you got the nuts but mis-counted
You lucky coin that don’t falls right
They're the breaks, you can’t avoid them
I guess, I guess that’s life
I guess, I guess that’s life
I guess, I guess that’s life
That’s life

Super imagery in this lyric Paddy, hoping there's a tune coming! I can totally empathise with those stored up phrases that keep nagging for our attention 😄

Such poetry in those lyrics Paddy - cant wait to hear it with the music added! Especially loved ‘felt like I was closer to becoming, but i guess I am completely lost’
