Liner Notes

Hello everyone! This is my second year doing FAWM, and I am somewhat excited this year because I feel a little more prepared but also a little nervous because I want to try to do a lot of physical recording this year. I have recently just got into school and am getting closer and closer to being able to get into music technology. I have plans on what to do a little bit, but I want to record and make the music on the day I make them. This first one, however, is my most recent work, titled Sanctuary, which I made a couple of months ago. It underwent a lot of changes because it had a lot of inspirational aspects, and I wanted to challenge myself with new things and techniques. My inspiration for this one came from listening to a lot of Crystal Castles. Their stuff is fantastic; it’s all dark, punchy, and aggressive, but their song, Char, inspired me the most. With that punchy main synth switching to stereo, it sounds and feels like it wraps around your head, and a little trance effect happens when it switches. I wanted that same stereo switch; I did it a little less violently, and my main lead synth, rather than have that trance effect, I got to actually “sing with itself.” If you listen to that part alone, you can hear how different voices appear in other parts. I don’t know how they do it, but they make a lot of their stuff “loud” or “blown out,” I tried to do that. Initially making this song specifically for my car’s loud sound system, the first version included a bass with the same pattern as the main synth but made everything muddy if I made it loud, so I ditched it for a droning bass that lies pretty low down. To counteract that, I thought backward and made it quieter; that way, you can crank up whatever you’re listening to and have it be loud. Some other inspirations for this came from playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the 7th time, playing an ungodly amount of Tetris Effect, and paying attention to how the music changes In the Game. That is all I can say...

Now I can hear it! I'm not much of an electronic music guy, but I like the different layers that you've put on it and there's a good rise and fall to it. Nice job.

If the song isn't playing in Google Drive just give it a second and it will start it just takes a minute for some reason
