Lyrics

You listen to a country song, they’re all the same they say
But my life keeps on going wrong in quite a similar way
I felt so sad that yesterday I just lay down and cried
My wife broke down, my dog has left and my old truck just died

But I am not a country boy you’ll hear it from my mouth
Hunting’s not something I enjoy and I’m not from the south
I wish I found the stars and stripes a constant source of pride
My wife broke down, my dog has left and my old truck just died

I have a problem with the drink I don’t take care for sure
I raise the glass and then I think I spilled some on the floor
I try to drink so I’ll forget the way I feel inside
My wife broke down, my dog has left and my old truck just died

I want to make my memories last but even if I fail
And don’t find comfort in the past I’m leaving on the trail
I’ll face life's disappointments and take them in my stride
My wife broke down, my dog has left and my old truck just died

This ... is a real country song, bruh. Even Nashville goes for wry irony and self reference these days. The drinking verse makes me think of George Jones a little. The chords you selected would suit a mid-century country tune just fine.

ha! what a great deconstruction of the old country cliches--- great fun and well done!
