Another one inspired by the #dailywritingprompt, for the phrase "blood and iron" from "Hope is a Tattered Flag" by #carlsandburg.

I took it in a...different direction. For me, it is a #queer song, but I doubt that is universal.

Lyrics

The Iron In Your Blood
Jemma Kline

The ash upon the pebbles,
The cinders on the breeze,
Are the echoes of your passing,
Of your mark upon our trees.

But we fear no axe or arrow,
Nor your footprints in the mud,
Only that which lies within you,
Only iron in your blood.

The hollows in the hillside,
The branches overhead,
Are where you’ll find our dwelling,
And where you’ll find your bed.

For we fear no axe or arrow
Nor your footprints in the mud,
Only that which lies within you,
Only iron in your blood

Take off your helm,
Put down your spear,
This can be home,
No need to fear.
We’ll cleanse your stain,
While here you sleep,
Draw out the poison,
And set you free.

Then you’ll fear no axe or arrow,
Nor the footprints in the mud.
Only peace will lie within you,
In your pure immortal blood.

Love your uke playing on this, and your voice -- has such a warm, timeless quality. The whole thing makes me feel like I'm listening to something that could have been written yesterday or a long-lost folk recording treasure found in some Appalachian basement from 100 years ago. Beautiful lyrics, the chorus especially -- love how it evolves in the last repetition. Beautiful stuff!
