Let Me Be Your Man

Liner Notes
I'm a big fan of Valarie June. I was heading home and she was on World Cafe and she was talking about her books, one which is a poetry book (full disclosure I own a signed copy), and the power of positivity. She told a story how Mavis Staples asked her for some songs but they had to positive songs because she had promised her dad to only sing positive songs, and Valarie was like, shoot I got like 100 songs about things being messed up. Valarie went on to say how being positive is a practice, not something you just do, but something you have to work at. All her words were hitting home for me as I recently have been trying to develop a practice of being positive in my own life (with mixed results). She then played "Someone to Love". Did I mention I love Valarie June?

Took one hour from sitting down to demo. Rough here but decided to only do one take as some of the lines are rough, perhaps too cliche, but defiantly using the word guide twice felt wrong. Just wanted to get this one out quick and let it be.
Lyrics
g c d
if you need a rock
if you need to roll
if you need a helping hand to guide you home
if you need a break
if your life gets fried
i can take the wheel, drive all through the night
[chorus]
d c g
let me be your strength when your feeling down
let me be your words when your speech is bound
let us walk hand and hand until the end of time
c d g
let me be your man
if you need a touch
or a tender word
lay you down till our bodies blur
if you need an ear
or shoulder for your tears
baby come and unload all your fears
[chorus]
[bridge]
stop looking for what you've already found
it's time to let your heart be your guide
stop wasting all of our precious time
let me be your man
[chorus]
