Girl on the Street

Liner Notes

Circa late 2023, I was walking home from the St Albans Station. In the opposite direction (walking towards the station), I saw a girl wearing a shirt that had the album cover to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd. (It's my 3rd favourite album behind Wish You Were Here and The Dark Side of the Moon.) I gave her a smile, but I didn't speak to her, to my huge regret looking back. This song was written as a paean to her, and a reflection on that missed opportunity.
It's written in Syd Barrett's style (similar to "Bike" and "Dark Globe").

This was done on my phone on the 24th of August. I sang and played guitar.

Lyrics

I was walking down the street
I saw a girl wearing a Pink Floyd shirt
With the cover for The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
But I was too shy to talk

I said nothing, but I smiled
And we walked in different directions
Felt joyous like a child
The depth of my perceptions

I'd like to meet the girl on the street

And when I look back on that day
I was glad to see a person
Who loves Syd Barrett like I do
I just wish I had something to say

We could ramble about gnomes and bikes
Astronomy, scarecrows and rainbows
Got a sense of regret for not being set
We just hadn't met yet

I'd like to meet the girl on the street
I'd like to meet the girl on the street
I'd like to meet the girl on the street
