White Blaze the AT Song

Liner Notes

This week's SongSidekick Song Circle prompt was to make an instructional song. I thought about themes for this prompt and several ideas crossed my mind; how to take over the world, how to fall in love, how to summon ancient Cthulhu spirits. Then I remembered the times that I had through hiked the Appalachian Trail and knew that was a great theme to make an instructional song about. My expectations going into the adventure and the reality of situation where quite different, and long distance hiking is a ritual of going to sleep when the sun goes down, waking up with the sun, and walking all day. Such was born this song. Six months of hiking the Appalachian Trail is an expense experience, and most of the song is chorus, so mostly was just trying to break the trail up into sections of the song with different areas by name and where you would find yourself on the trail timewise, and then trying to echo theme of walking. Don't want to discourage others from hiking the trail, quite the opposite, and there is obviously more than just walking to the experience (concept album?) . Hopefully did a job in the bridge that really solidifies it as a positive experience.

Two hours from finding the theme to final demo. Was having some serious breathe issue on the pre-chorus consistently.

"It's one foot in front of the other all the way". How true of almost everything! Congrats to you for hiking the trail.

Excellent! I think the real test is: is this the sort of tune you could picture yourself singing to keep you company as you walk on down the trail? And the answer is a resounding yes! I collabbed on an AT tune a couple fawms ago. Old Banjo. About the trail names people get. Great job here.
