Here's a little #filk about my #fantasy #larp I'll be attending this weekend. I sure hope it doesn't end up this way! First time with a (strumstick) #dulcimer song for this year's 50/90.

Thank you, #badsongclub, for the "Late Night Vibes" prompt!

Lyrics

The Time We Didn’t Win
Jemma Kline

It’s Saturday night at the Dragon;
The innkeep tries to grin.
All my friends have gathered,
But this time we didn’t win.
I see the tarot reading:
Misfortune in the cards.
I hear the grief and sorrow
In the singing of the bard:

Rise up my heroes,
Draw forth your steel.
Rise up my heroes,
Once more to the field.

The herbalist is brewing
A potion for distress.
The weary scouts are drinking
To forget they failed the test.
But the priest is softly humming
Near the brave but fallen knight,
And the wizard joins the singing
That’s still urging us to fight:

Rise up my heroes,
Draw forth your steel.
Rise up my heroes,
Once more to the field.

(flute bridge)

Then the warrior grabs his axes,
And the ranger strings her bow,
For the room’s now loudly shouting out
The song we all must know:

Rise up my heroes,
Draw forth your steel!
Rise up my heroes,
Once more to the field!

Nice filk as coolparadiso stated. A clever use of lyrics to capture the feeling of the fantasy world.

A very nice piece of filk! Strong singable chorus, nice change up as well.
