A song written in a dream. It was @cindyrella who wrote, probably joking, “I bet you can write in your sleep.” < https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/299843#c268907 > The next night, last night, I woke up at midnight and realized that in the dream I woke up from, I had been writing a song that didn’t otherwise exist — actually writing a song in my sleep. I hurried to write down as much as I could remember of the song, which was about a bag containing a coffee shop purchase, tied with string, mistakenly left behind on the median of a street in an unfamiliar city, then found again. I remembered the music and story in detail and some of the phonetics but hardly any of the actual words. This morning I reconstructed the words so that they were consistent with everything I remembered from the dream. In both music and story, this is quite different from the songs I write while awake.

Lyrics

This needs some attention
Coffee on the median
Its youth ill spent
Waiting for its moment

On the sticker
My
Name
Written in
The same hand
And time going by-y-y-y-y
So don’t
Wait
Undo the gray
Strand
And see
What’s inside

We came from far away
To stand here today
Left at the light
Hiding in plain sight

On the sticker
My
Name
Written in
The same hand
And time going by-y-y-y-y
So don’t
Wait
Undo the gray
Strand
And see
What’s inside

Interesting lyrics. I liked the flow of the chorus - quite an unusual structure. Songs from dreams can often take you in welcome odd directions.

I'm impressed that you could remember any of the song in your dream. When I have songs in my dreams, I can never remember them. And that's sad, because they are so good! :P This paints a really interesting picture. It's a very good metaphor for life and the need to make the most of it before it's gone or before the moment is lost to time.
