Midnight Rambling

Liner Notes

I'm mostly thinking here about the track list for the album (it's a bit of a lost art these days). The last one, Messed Up, was an up-tempo song. So, here, I've decided to bring the mood right down and create something slow, atmospheric, and very dynamic. There are a couple of things helping me here. Back in the day, when I recorded to tape, I always struggled to capture dynamics, and that's not a problem anymore with digital recording. Secondly, I'm playing real drums now, and that makes it much easier to get that slower, jazzier feel.

Lyrics

The sun went down
A long time ago
And coherent thought
Goes out to roam

The light and the dark
Of the concrete jungle
Plays in my eyes, and in my mind
As I stumble

It's midnight, and my mind
Rambles through this town
The shadows and the lights
Play across the ground

And I don't sleep
At night anymore
I stumble to bed
When the day dawns

The dead of the night
Causes my mind
To ramble abroad
Under street lights

This has a refreshing live feel. The symbols in the beginning the drums and guitar remind me of live music venue. The vocal is great too
