Sad, Sad Song

by @edwardsmusic

Liner Notes

This was a song I wrote with my mentor Tamara Issa, at my music course Wild at Heart Community Arts.

Tamara is one of the facilitators at Wild at Heart, and is also the bassist and co-lead singer of the indie band Obscura Hail (her husband Sean Conran is the guitarist and singer in the band, and also works with WAH).

Tamara suggested I could write a song with her in a mentoring session one day. We ended up writing a tongue-in-cheek heartbreak song. Tamara brainstormed lyrics (and suggested chords for the choruses), while I wrote most of the music and a few lines. She sang lead on this, while I sang backing vocals in the choruses.

This was recorded on my phone on the 31st of July, in the bandroom at Sol Green Community Centre in South Melbourne. This is where the Wild at Heart classes are held.

Tamara Issa - lead vocals, bass guitar
Edward Roussac - harmony vocals, electric guitar

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
A D E
When you're alone, it's easy
A D E
No one to tell you what you're doing wrong
A D E
I got it good, believe me
A D E
I found the devil in a sad, sad song

[Chorus]
C F
Don't wanna figure you out
C F
I see your face in the crowd
G
Give me something to believe in
E
I'd hate to lose and not be winning

[Verse 2]
A D E
I'm getting sick of thinking
A D E
About the things that could have been
A D E
Sleepy Sundays and kisses
A D E
Late night dining and candlelight dinners

[Chorus]
Don't wanna figure you out
I see your face in the crowd
Give me something to believe in
I'd hate to lose and not be winning

[Verse 3]
A D E
Next time you see me, just turn the other way
A D E
This game is over, no more cards to play
A D E
They say that love is for everybody
A D E
Well, I buried my heart in the ground, a long time ago

[Chorus]
Don't wanna figure you out
I see your face in the crowd
Give me something to believe in
I'd hate to lose and not be winning

I like the anti-love lyrics. Very refreshing. The demo is simple and effective. I like the easy vibe of the music. It has a very relaxing vibe that is really appealing.

a breakup song with a different attitude than most. I like the "dont give a damn" approach here.
