Challenge: Descending Chords

Liner Notes

The songs uses a descending fifths chord progression, at least I think that is what is going here. I'm not the most musically knowledgeable (cries in fawmling) but I do try to learn something new once in a blue moon. Feel free to flame me in the comments if I got it wrong or if you are just having that kind of day.

Thinking about trying to distill down a lived life to a singular moment, and how many of those moments do you get to experience in a lifetime.

If you had to pick one moment for yourself what moment would you choose?

There may or may not be a Roomba accompaniment in the background but things are crazy around here.

Short song. Still took about 4 hours and more than that as the idea developed over a few days.

Lyrics

[verse]
dm7 - g7 - cmaj7

[refrain]
dm7 - g7 - c (resolved)

[bridge]
am - em - am - em - dm7 - g7 -

the string lights shimmer in the summer heat
you and i are just tapping our feet

the weekends here , we've had our wine
the moonlight filters through the lazy pines

as the stars descend and lose their light
i'm hoping she doesn't say good night

because all i want is one more dance with you

weather forecast calling glass and nails
anchors saying it could last for days

make it together we always do
but sands are tumbling and when they're through

i'll be on the floor waiting for you
thinking about the times i never knew

having one last dance with you

the heat of this night
as you draw near

strangers will stare
whisper we have it all

but i would give it all away
just for the moment of this day

because all i want is one more dance with you

This has a compelling theme with lots of detail in the verse and conveyance of a sense of loss. The chord choices (esp the 7ths and minors) support the song well.

Those 7th chords give this a dusky feeling. I dig it. The music compliments the lyrics very nicely!
