For the challenge of a there-and-back-again story, I ended up with the opposite, a story of a moment of enlightenment from which there is no turning back regardless of what the itinerary says. I hope someone can provide music for this one.

Lyrics

Barcelona
Was supposed to be my turnaround
On my bargain fare to Madrid
I flew in on a Tuesday
Was supposed to fly back out again
On Thursday but I never did

I had to stay
Two nights to qualify
Asking all the while why am I here
That’s a big question
But I had time to recognize
What I’d been running from all these years

Turn your life around in Barcelona
This is where you’ll finally get it right
You’ll never go back home to California
When you look down from the hills and see the light

When the truth lands
You tend to freeze in place
There’s no sense in running from the facts
Like a sea breeze
When it hits you in the face
That’s when you know that there’s no turning back

It’s just a moment
When you turn a corner
Shadows disappear and all you see is light
Blink your eyes again
And the past is gone
And then there is no reason left to fight

Turn your life around in Barcelona
This is where you’ll finally get it right
You’ll never go back home to California
When you look down from the hills and see the light

I like the mystery of what is being transformed, and I love the word play from a “turnaround” to “turn your life around”. “I had time to recognize / What I’d been running from all these years” is a great line that invites self-projection into the song on an intense topic of one’s choice. A sense of magic of locale comes through also. Amazing and intriguing write for a skirmish!

Great job! I love the "all the while why" bit...
In fact, I sang the whole time in kind of a mock Keith Whitley (it's a compliment for sure!)

Cheers

I like how "When you look down from the hills and see the light" combines metaphorical "seeing the light" with (I presume) city lights.

Oh wow!!! How wonderful!!!

That 'special something' just catches your eye and suddenly everything is different. Fantastic write! I join you in hoping that someone puts a melody to it!

@pianoquest Yes, I want to see the movie too!!! Just like _Ferris Bueller's Day Off_ is John Hughes' love song to Chicago, I want the movie to be a love song to Barcelona. And this song is the soundtrack playing at the climactic moment. :-)

Interesting story! I would watch the movie of this. I like the premise that an incidental, almost random place ends up taking so much importance.
