Black Cat

Liner Notes

This one came out kind of jazzy. Not by any sort of intention. I was just playing around with a minimal drum setup and seeing what different sorts of things I could come up with. When I got to the rhythm guitar part, the 9 chords just seemed to fit with what I had.

I sometimes find it hard to say anything about my music, because when I'm working quickly (like right now) so much of the actual creative work is subconscious. I'm not really thinking about what I'm doing, in the conventional sense. Or maybe I'm thinking in music, rather than words.

Lyrics

Black cat crossed my trail
With yellow eyes and twitching tale
And those eyes stare into my soul
And bad luck takes its toll

And it slinks away
No care in the world
And it sneaks in side
And on my bed it curls

They say you don't own cats
They own you
And a cat will do
What it wants to do
Without words, conveys its moods
Seeking attention, demanding food

She grooms her fur
Black as night
And fixes me
With a predator's stare

Ooh! What's that green Gretsch? I really enjoy this piece - jazz/rock changes with surfy leads, plus your nice Morrison/Curtis baritone. It all goes together to make a dreamy, viby stew. Nice work!

Love me some jazz! Great guitar tone and I had a beautiful black cat so this is so relatable. We are staff for cats and a meal if the situation arises🐱‍👤

The visual presentation is an awesome addition to this sonic experience! The lyrics are a fun rumination. And I love the jazz flair! So fun.
