Three Times (Shame, Shame, Shame)

Challenge: Idiom

Liner Notes

#acousticrock
A stripped-down old-time kind of song calculated to cut through the noise. I leaned on idioms to make the lyric sound like folk wisdom, but I am not aware of any existing folk wisdom that supports its particular position. Maybe this song can serve as the new folk wisdom. The prominent idiomatic expression here is the hook “shame, shame, shame,” but you can’t go two lines without tripping over another one.

Lyrics

Now you can put this on me
And my broken heart
Misfortune might have found me
But I knew it from the start
Take people at face value
When they show you who they are
They might hurt you
But they won’t get very far

Leave me one time
Never be the same
Leave me two times
Put out the flame
Leave me three times
Shame shame shame

Now I could have believed it when you said
There were other men
That goes double when you said
I’d never see you again
And after that your story
Might have fallen on deaf ears
But what a fool believes
Is all that he hears

Leave me one time
Never be the same
Leave me two times
Put out the flame
Leave me three times
Shame shame shame

Now I may be a fool
But I’ve made up my mind
I can’t face the world to say you
Got me one more time

Leave me one time
Never be the same
Leave me two times
Put out the flame
Leave me three times
Shame shame shame
(3x)

Has a nice rhythm, I was kind of bopping my head with the tune. By the end was singing along. Nice song.
